In a significant development for Hungary’s defence industrial landscape, 4iG Space and Defence Zrt. has forged a pivotal partnership with Tatra Trucks. This collaborative agreement sets the stage for a new chapter in military and special-purpose vehicle distribution, marking a strategic move in Hungary’s evolving defence sector. Under the terms of the agreement, 4iG S&D will gain exclusive rights to represent Tatra and to distribute its renowned vehicles in Hungary, thus opening a gateway to exceptional heavy-duty, off-road platforms designed specifically for defence and security applications.

This agreement is not merely about vehicle distribution; it is a comprehensive strategy that explores further domestic industrial cooperation. 4iG S&D and Tatra will delve into manufacturing and assembly processes, as well as provide essential maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. A notable player in this collaboration is Rába Automotive Holding, which is set to come under the indirect majority ownership of 4iG S&D in January 2026. Rába is poised to leverage its extensive defence industrial capabilities, creating a synergy that will enhance the effectiveness of Tatra’s offerings in Hungary.

Looking ahead, the collaboration posits dynamic opportunities for 4iG S&D to contribute to the manufacturing of Tatra vehicles, including components and subsystems. This move could pave the way for joint development projects not just within Hungary but also in broader markets outside the country. Ultimately, 4iG S&D and its partners envision Rába evolving into a manufacturing and development hub for Tatra operations in the Central European region, aiming to be one of the largest centres in Europe.

The backdrop of this partnership includes the ownership landscape of Tatra. Currently, 65% of Tatra’s shares are held by the Czechoslovak Group (CSG), a burgeoning player in the defence industrial sector across Central and Eastern Europe. CSG boasts manufacturing and development facilities in over ten nations, focusing on land systems, ammunition production, and specialized defence solutions. By collaborating with CSG through Tatra Trucks, 4iG S&D aligns itself with an organization that possesses extensive international recognition and formidable technological capabilities in defence.

This agreement ties back to the long-term strategy of 4iG S&D and the larger 4iG Group, which aims to provide cutting-edge, NATO-compatible defence solutions to strengthen Hungary’s strategic role in the regional defence industrial value chain. As part of this vision, the partnership aims to enhance land mobility capabilities, positioned as a flagship initiative within 4iG S&D’s Land Systems business line. This venture ultimately seeks to develop a robust defence industrial portfolio that integrates air, land, and space competencies.
