Advancing Public Safety through Drone Technology in Milton, West Virginia

A Revolutionary Partnership

In the heart of Milton, West Virginia, a revolutionary partnership is taking flight—one that promises to enhance public safety and streamline emergency responses. Appalachian Unified Aerospace, a local innovator in drone technology, has joined forces with MITRE of Virginia. Their mission? To make state-of-the-art drone technology accessible to agencies that may struggle with the costs associated with such advanced tools.

The Power of Drones in Public Safety

Drones have become increasingly pivotal in public safety applications. They utilize heat and infrared technology for human detection, offering a significant advantage during emergency situations. By providing aerial views, drones enable better situational assessments, which can make the difference between a successful intervention and a tragic outcome.

David Crabtree, the founder of Appalachian Unified Aerospace, underscores the transformational power of drones in emergency management. “We are putting humans in danger zones at risk, so one part of this technology is we take the human out of that,” Crabtree explains. By deploying drones to establish a perimeter quickly and safely, first responders can focus their efforts more effectively and minimize risk to human lives.

Making Technology Affordable

One of the standout aspects of this collaboration is its commitment to affordability. High-end drones often come with price tags reaching six figures, making them prohibitively expensive for many agencies. However, with Crabtree’s innovative approach, he can enhance existing drones for just a few thousand dollars, making advanced technology more accessible. This means that local law enforcement and emergency services can benefit from cutting-edge tools without stretching their budgets to the breaking point.

Educational Opportunities and Certifications

Beyond providing new technology, Appalachian Unified Aerospace is also dedicated to education and training. They offer certification classes to ensure that local agencies can operate the drones safely and effectively. This emphasis on training not only equips first responders with the skills they need but also fosters a greater understanding of how drone technology can be utilized for public safety.

Community Impact and Local Support

The partnership has garnered significant support from local officials. Milton Mayor Shane Evans expresses enthusiasm for the new venture, highlighting the community’s eagerness to engage with local businesses. “What is nice is he’s local, where if we want to get more involved with him, we can have our guys train with him,” says Evans. This local training focus means that agencies can receive hands-on experience without the need to travel far from home.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Crabtree is focused on expansion. His next step involves hiring six employees to help manage the growing demand for drone services and technology. Additionally, he aims to market this innovative technology more widely, ensuring that even more agencies can utilize modern drone capabilities.

In this way, both Appalachian Unified Aerospace and MITRE of Virginia are not just pushing the boundaries of technology; they are enhancing community safety and well-being, one drone at a time.
