Kia’s Bold Move Into Military Mobility

Goyang, South Korea – On October 20, 2025, Kia Corp., South Korea’s second-largest automaker, showcased its latest innovations in military mobility at the Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2025. This biennial trade show, held at KINTEX in Goyang, is a significant venue for manufacturers to present their advancements in defense technology, and Kia did not disappoint.

Cutting-Edge Military Command Vehicles

One of the highlights of Kia’s exhibition was the military command variant of its Tasman pickup truck. Enhanced with tactical equipment like radios and antennas, this model has been selected as the standard command pickup for the South Korean military. The vehicle is set to be deployed in operational capacities later this year, underscoring Kia’s long-standing commitment to military vehicle development dating back to the 1970s.

Versatility in Tactical Operations

Kia also displayed its impressive Medium Tactical Vehicle, first introduced in June. This vehicle excels in off-road and operational performance, boasting capabilities such as traversing 1-meter-deep rivers and scaling 60 percent gradients. It can transport up to 25 troops or carry 10 tons of cargo, making it a versatile asset for various military missions.

Innovations in Tactical Vehicles

In addition to the Medium Tactical Vehicle, Kia revealed several variants of the Light Tactical Vehicle, each tailored for specific operational needs. Among them was a drone carrier variant designed for reconnaissance missions, reflecting the growing integration of technology in military operations. Another variant showcased an artificial intelligence (AI)-based surveillance vehicle, highlighting Kia’s commitment to innovation in military mobility.

A Vision for the Future of Military Mobility

“Our presence at ADEX highlights Kia’s commitment to providing a wide range of tactical mobility solutions to ensure safe and efficient troop movement,” stated a Kia official. The company’s dedication to the military sector is evident in its strategic development of vehicles designed for operational effectiveness and adaptability.

The Bigger Picture in Defense Technology

Kia’s foray into the military sector not only emphasizes its engineering prowess but also aligns with the broader trend of automakers diversifying into defense. As global security challenges evolve, companies like Kia are recognizing the importance of contributing to national defense through advanced mobility solutions. This strategy positions Kia as a crucial player in the future landscape of military logistics.

This exhibition at ADEX 2025 marks a significant step in Kia’s military division, showcasing the evolving landscape of military mobility and the vital role that technological innovation plays in modern defense strategies.
