Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam Visits Bulgaria’s Defense Industry

On October 24, 2023, Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam, accompanied by a high-level delegation, embarked on an official visit to Bulgaria. One of the highlights of this trip was the visit to Samel-90 PLC, a prominent Bulgarian defense enterprise renowned for its work in electronic and military communication equipment.

Welcoming Ceremony

Upon arrival at Samel-90, General Secretary To Lam was warmly welcomed by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and senior leaders of the company. This meeting served as an important platform for discussing the burgeoning defense industry in Bulgaria, emphasizing the capabilities that distinguish Samel-90 as a key player in this field.

Overview of Bulgaria’s Defense Capabilities

President Rumen Radev provided General Secretary To Lam with a thorough overview of Bulgaria’s defense industry. He highlighted the significant capabilities and flagship products of Samel-90, establishing a foundation for potential collaboration between the two nations. This exchange underlined Bulgaria’s commitment to advancing its defense technologies while fostering international partnerships.

Vietnam’s Defense Industry Goals

In response, General Secretary To Lam articulated Vietnam’s aspirations for a modern, self-sufficient defense industry. He emphasized the importance of resilience and adaptability, positioning the defense sector as a crucial component of Vietnam’s broader industrial strategy. His vision includes ensuring the nation’s independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Additionally, General Secretary To Lam reaffirmed Vietnam’s policy of diversification and multilateral cooperation, advocating for a balanced and mutually beneficial relationship with Bulgaria. This sentiment is emblematic of Vietnam’s broader approach to international relations, aiming to strengthen ties across various domains.

Strengthening Vietnamese-Bulgarian Defense Relations

The discussions also delved into the recently established Vietnam-Bulgaria Strategic Partnership. General Secretary To Lam underlined that defense cooperation is central to the overall relationship between the two nations. He expressed a keen interest in sharing experiences and enhancing ties, particularly in cutting-edge areas such as the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and remote sensing electronic equipment.

Collaboration Opportunities with Samel-90

Acknowledging the expertise and capabilities of Samel-90, General Secretary To Lam suggested that the company collaborate closely with relevant Vietnamese defense entities. This collaboration would focus on identifying specific areas of cooperation tailored to the needs and capacities of both sides. The proposal pointed to a proactive approach to defense innovation and joint development.

Support for Bulgarian Defense Companies

Furthermore, General Secretary To Lam reiterated the commitment of the Vietnamese Party, State, and Government to facilitate engagement between Samel-90 and other established Bulgarian defense enterprises with their Vietnamese counterparts. Such partnerships aim to highlight their products, identify synergies, and explore cooperative opportunities that meet mutual objectives.

He emphasized the importance of participation in upcoming events, such as the Vietnam International Defence Expo, to showcase innovations and foster collaborative efforts in the defense sector.

Closing Remarks

The visit to Samel-90 PLC not only demonstrates the strengthening of Vietnamese-Bulgarian relationships but also illustrates the broader commitment to enhancing defense capabilities through international cooperation. General Secretary To Lam’s discussions reflect a forward-thinking approach to defense strategy, aiming to establish Vietnam as a key player in the global defense landscape.
